How to cut a placket

Today and in a few blog post more I am going to write about how to cut and  sew a placket. Placket making is an area  in sewing  which requires a little extra practice. The placket I am talking about here is not the kind on a button down shirt or a blouse. This is the kind that is just a opening on a pull over shirt..

When cutting a placket begin as follows,  Fold a pieces of fabric cut like a shirt in half. Make a slit from 8 to 12 inches long, depending on what size shirt you are making. Then cut the slit again moving in 1/8  inch from the edge. Cut a slit at the corner of first slit forming a triangle about 1/4" to 1/2 inches deep.
There are two parts for a placket. The right placket and the left placket. The right is cut from 8" to 12" long and 1 1/2" to 2" wide.. The left placket is cut the same length but double the width or more of the right of the left placket. Cut the left side 1/2" in and 1 1/2" up at the bottom.
